troy polamulu has been a part of 2 very big games this year... when it comes to beating the vegas spread.
a few weeks back against the chargers, the score was 11-10 late in the 4th quarter. on the final play of the game, troy ran back a failed lateral attempt for a touchdown as time ran out. the spread on the game was -5 pitt. with troy's td return, the score shoud've ended 17-10 and all of the pitt faithful bettors winning the wager. but the officials did not award pitt with that td for some dumb reason. like many, i took pitt -5 and shouldve won my wager. instead.. there was a swing of millions of dollars across the nation as +5 chargers won.
this past sunday in the afc championship game with the score 16-14 in the 4th quarter, the ravens were driving the field on what was prob their last possession. the spread on the game was -6 pitt. troy picked off a pass and ran it back for a touchdown to make it 23-14. he was the reason for another huge swing against the spread.

as u may already know.. a u.s. airway passenger plane made an emergency landing on the hudson river yesterday after a flock of geese were swallowed by the engine.
its amazing all 155 passengers were safe. yaaaaaawwwn. is that even news. whats news is that the crazy bastards at peta havent filed any complaints yet.

i cannot fathom how much money is made on the bridges and tunnels going through new york on a daily basis. millions? i guess it must be since there is an estimated 1 million commuters on average. so lets say $6 a pop.. $6mil right there on the low estimation for the port authority. yes, that was quick math. me smarrrt.
anyways.. its an obscene amount of money every year. last year, 2008, the city of new york also made a nice chunk of change... in parking tickets. $620mil worth.

on the 1st episode.. there was one guy who was talking about all the chicks he gets. and the most recent chick he is banging was watching on. so he says there is a long list of women and the most recent chick he refers to as "the bottom btch"

this past tuesday, i watched a full episode of american idol for the first time in my life. i've watched clips and pieces during the other seasons.. and i do remember the earlier episodes being funnier with the wack jobs that come on.

there was a young chick named stevie that was good. she was named after stevie nix.
there was bikini girl who started a cat fight with the new judge.. that was amusing. she was a decent singer too suprisingly.

how the hell is gene chizik qualified to coach auburn. auburn has a great history of football.. and the hillbillys down south chose chizik to lead their team. chizik comes from iowa state.. finished this season 2-10.. and 0-8 in the big12. 0-8 conference... and they didnt even play texas, texas tech, or oklahoma. great choice.

the mlb winter meetings are heating up. both ny teams have made huge signings to address need areas already.
my initial response to hearing the mets signing k-rod was.. wow, he's just the guy they need. if the mets had a reliable closer the past couple of years, they would've probably made the playoffs. relief pitching is a huge need for the mets. well, i guess that could be said for just about any team. anyways.. relief pitching has been an achilles heel and mlb save record setting k-rod is the answer.. right?
tony kornheiser had an interesting twist to the k-rod signing. first, is k-rod worth all that money? did omar minaya once again overpay a player which no other team was getting close to paying their offer?
second, k-rod broke bobby thigpen's record of 57 saves by closing out 62 games. thats pretty damn impressive... 62 games is 1/3 of the season. so, what did thigpen do after his record breaking 57 saves? in the seasons to follow, the most saves he got was 30 and his era blew up. did thigpen ruin his arm? what if the same goes for k-rod?
and finally third, why did the angels let k-rod go without a fight? did the angels know something the rest of the mlb doesnt? a closer is very valuable these days.. and for the angels to let go of a record setter without any offers.. well, thats just odd.
more importantly.. the mets traded for jj putz. i think he may end up being a lot more valuable than k-rod. putz is slated to be the setup man for k-rod.. but is very capable of closing games and possibly dethroning k-rod if any problems arise.

and now for cc. a day after cc was reported as saying he does not want to be a yankee.. he goes ahead and agrees to a record deal for a pitcher. wtf?
so his deal has a clause that after 3 years, he can opt out. so basically right now, he's on a 3 year $69mil deal. if he and his fam like the nyc metro area.. then i guess he'll be wiping his ass with $20's from the rest of the 70+ millions.
peter gammons had a good point.. cc has thrown a lot of innings and who knows what kind of shape he'll be in 3 yrs from now. maybe he'll still be a stud, or maybe he'll gain more weight and be useless. in either case.. the 4th year mark is a good time to reassess the contract. if the yanks win a world series within the 3 years.. then no matter what, its good money spent.
yanks are also close to signing aj burnett. if they have to sign burnett, derek lowe, or ben sheets.. i would prefer burnett, only bc lowe is 4 years older than aj.. and ben sheets, well, he's softer than cotton candy. doubt sheets can pitch in a major market too.

carmelo anthony scored 33 pts in the 3rd quarter the other nite. that's just crazy. 33pts! mj and wilt never even did that. he's got a lot of critics, but u cannot deny that he is potentially top 2 creative scorers in the nba.

where was this all season? rutgers started off the season 1-5.. the starting qb was boo'd off the field, and schiano's coaching was questioned. since then, rutgers peeled off 6 straight wins. it was a very impressive stretch of games, capped off by the train that was run on louisville on national tv. in their 6 straight wins, rutgers outscored opponents 243-94.
lucky for rutgers, there were many high profile recruits at the game too.

it was senior nite... and the most notable senior had a career game. qb mike teel set rutgers records for td passes and yards. he went 21-26 for 447 yards and 7 tds! its hard to do that even in video games!
before the start of the season, i stated that rutgers could potentially be top 10 team bc of their passing attack and experienced defensive secondary. if they played like they have been for the past 6 games, who knows what bcs bowl they could be going to. by rule, the win against louisville made rutgers eligible for a big east at large bcs bid. of course they are not going to get one, but its kind of cool for rutgers to be even eligible for it.

did u know the san diego chargers woop'd on oakland last nite? if u didnt, ur now alone. nfl network is retarded. most of the nation misses games on nfl network bc its only serviced by directv. this weeks game.. raiders v chargers was almost blacked out in california bc of low ticket sales. nfl network bought the remainder of open seats just to avoid black out.
nothing new to detroit tho.. lions games have been blacked out in detroit this season for a few weeks. thats just not right. black outs in ur own city. shame.

sure his stats are good, but are they of one who is AL MVP? i think not. first of all.. the mvp signifies the player which the team cannot win without. and its pretty clear the mvp of the bosox was manny ramirez. also, i highly doubt opposing teams were pitching around pedroia to get to big papi. im fairly sure it was the other way around. just like how big papi was protected by manny.. pedroia is now protected by papi. of course the midget is gonna see fastball after fastball when there is a huge threat who bats after him. pitchers dont want to face papi with runners on base. pedroia is a nice role player. he is not AL MVP. and thank god he didnt get paid like one. 6 years for $40mil. there is a little justice in this world.

This might be a re read...but always good to be reminded. I knew about the red light on cars, but not the *77. It was about 1:00p.m. in the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend. An UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put his lights on. Lauren's parents have always told her never to pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather to wait until they get to a gas station, etc.
Lauren had actually listened to her parents advice,and promptly called *77 on her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away. She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her. The dispatcher checked to see if there were police cars where she was and there weren't, and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back up already on the way.
Ten minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her. One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground.
The man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes.
I never knew about the *77 Cell Phone Feature, but especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your right20to keep going to a safe & quiet place. You obviously need to make some signals that you acknowledge them (i.e. put on your hazard lights) or call *77 like Lauren did.
Too bad the cell phone companies don't generally give you this little bit of wonderful information.

what a great game last nite... j-e-t-s held off an amazing randy moss touchdown with 1 second left to win in overtime. the crowd was in it, the pats had momentum... but brett did not care and made ALL the throws when he needed to, especially on 3rd downs. and besides the ny/nj/boston area.. most of the people across the country did not see it bc it was on nfl network. its as if the game never happened. but indeeeeed it did.

however.. bcs chaos will happen if TT loses to oklahoma. that will mean.. texas, oklahoma, and tt will have 1 loss... to each other.. and winning games at home against each other. yea, its gonna get confusing.

it is a strange season in the nfl when kyle orton is a must start in fantasy fball. not only is he putting up nice #'s.. he's been doing it mostly with a cast of average players. devin hester is explosive, but very raw. rashied davis is a nice role player.. but may not even make other rosters. greg olsen is starting to come around, and def poses as a receiving threat. matt forte is arguably offensive rookie of the year so far, which is nice to have for orton.
this week.. brandon lloyd comes back. orton is going to the pro bowl at this rate.
the air assault on detroit this sunday is going to bring back memories of the run'n'shoot which former oiler great warren moon bent defenses over with. lloyd was orton's best target a few weeks ago before getting injured. and the injury did not occur from a horsecollar.

the green bay packers are going to end the titans perfect season this wknd.. which will also prove the nfc north as the best division in football.

its a shame penn state will probably end up going to the national championship game this year. i say this bc other teams are more deserving to play for the title. psu has a cake schedule remaining and should go undefeated.. they don't even have to play emerging teams like minnesota and northwestern. lets face it, psu hasnt exactly played a top schedule so far either. dont get me wrong.. penn state is a good team, but i wouldnt say top 2 in the country. thats fair right?
the big10 is having a down year. being undefeated in their conference is def a great accomplishment, but without a conference championship game and weak schedule.. i cannot say psu is top 2 overall.
talent-wise, i still believe usc is the best team in the country. teams like florida and alabama are good, but neither will end the year undefeated. texas, oklahoma, and texas tech will not end the year undefeated either.
conference play in sec and big12 are too tough.
usc just had an off week against oregon state. they will cruise rest of the way.
maybe an undeserving psu being in the national championship game will just add fuel to the fire for a playoff instead of this bcs nonsense.
the bcs is garbage.. basically whoever ends as the two hot teams go to the championship game. if texas remains #1 rest of the season.. but loses in their big12 title game... then they will probably not play for the national title bc they lost in the final game. dumb.

so beyonce is back on the radio. during her time off she allegedly recorded 70 tracks... yes 70 songs. of course not all 70 will be on her next cd which is coming out soon.
"her" first hit single.. 'if i were a boy' is getting a lot of radio play lately. when i was driving to work last week, the z100 morning crew had an exclusive cut of her song.
at first impression.. the song was cool. the callers on the morning show absolutely loved the song.. they went on and on about how shes back! one caller even called beyonce and her first single.. inspirational.. and i think a tear was coming down her cheek even, no joke.
a little too dramatic since the song isnt ALL THAT.

i dunno what to think about the spread offense in college football. it's fun to watch the glorified option offense on the college level.. but is it good for the players? why do kids want to play college football? for the scholarship and free education?.. no. for the groupie love?.. possible. to one day play on sundays?.. yes. unfortunately, the qb's and rb's dont really get developed in the spread. as of right now.. i'd take jimmy claussen as a better nfl prospect than any spread offense qb, including tim tebow.
it's kinda like the hawaii qb's who put up ridiculous #'s in the pass happy offense. u would think that type of offense would enhance their passing ability. well, it doesnt. the qb doesnt develop into a well rounded athlete.. and the nfl doesnt run that type of offense.

oklahoma is #1 for now. so far the best team in the best conference, so i guess its worthy.

eh.. unproven qb. team overall probably playing better than they should. they wont last in top 3 for long.

mizzu would be lsu.

texas would beat lsu and probably give mizzu a tough game.

psu is not a top 10 team. notorious developer for wannabe nfl rb's. big10 is a mediocre league.

look at it this way met fans.. the mets bats are so streaky and the bullpen is so horrid that even if they made the playoffs, they wouldve just gotten embarassed anyways. might as well end the disappointments early. there was no way they'd win the Quad-A to play in the world series. probably better off this way.

i think the rutgers football team is headed in the right direction. yes i said it. i understand they lost to navy so why do i say this? bc the running game is finally established. jourdan brooks got a majority of the carries against navy and he performed well. kordell young and mason robinson did not carry the ball once. in fact, they didnt even make the box score. i think they spent the game in the weight room.

so i hate college football. sports in general are dumb. i've slowly become detached from sports in the past few years.. for no exclusive reason, i think just priorities changing over time. and this year's rutgers football team is helping me widen the gap between sports and i even more.
rutgers ish'd the bed against beatable teams like fresno and unc. more embarassing.. both pathetic losses were on national tv. i want to puke. im surprised they're still able to land recruits. even after they got bent over by unc last week.. rutgers was still able to sign a 4 star LB who was supposed to play for michigan. not bad.
anyways.. as disgusting rutgers has been playing so far, the season is still alive. big east gets a bcs bid. big east play hasnt started yet. going into big east play in 3 weeks, rutgers should be 2-2 with some momentum. they play navy and morgan state in back to back weeks until they meet wvu. looks as if usf and uconn are tops in the league so far.. but who knows what will happen. there is a lot of parity and injuries will happen. season seems lost at this point.. but its all about entering league play and running the table at this point. most likely wont happen, but anything is possible. maybe ru just needs more time to work out the kinks. its a long season and im still hopeful.
hey schiano.. how about getting jourdan brooks some more p.t. to get the running game going.

in other ncaa football happenings.. ohio state got railed by usc. usc is clearly the best college football team in the pac10.. and north america. dont even start with the beanie wells bs.. bc then the score wouldve ended at 35-10, not 35-3.
with that said, its a good idea to rid of the word "overrated" from the sports fan's vocabulary and understand there is just more parity across the board. yes, the big ten seems soft this year.. so does the big east. shoot, even the pac10 and sec are not that great. this year's best conference is hands down, the big12, from top to bottom. in any case.. there is just more parity in college football and any team can win any game. b'leeev dat.

so, i've been trying to keep up with the presidential race but its really tough. i mean, the speeches are kinda boring to me. i feel like anyone who runs for prez is like a salesman trying to sell themselves for ur vote. they tell u the benefits of what they can do for u, and what the opponent cannot. i get distracted by their phoniness since most of the stuff they promise never come true anyways. call me a pessimist, but until the prez really comes thru with their goals and promises.. the cup will remain half empty of how i see them.
soon they will act like rappers who have an album release coming up and hit all the major markets to get their name out there. rappers hit all the radio stations in most states.. and the prez candidates will hit all the markets to go platinum.
didnt see much of the democratic national convention but i heard obama held it down with nice speeches. only thing i worry about him is his demeanor.. is he too soft?

its great to have football back on tv. especially when the sport has so many interesting characters.

espn mag predicts RU to finish 7th in the big east. im shocked. the writers are hating on the running game. kordell young and mason robinson are capable rb's.. and im fairly certain that they will play well this season. ray rice was great and will be missed, but the running game will be fine... and the passing game will be one of the best in the country. teel is competent, tiquan and britt are one of the best duos out there, and kevin brock is improving at te. as unfair it is to say.. the team will go far as only mike teel brings them.

senior qb should be able to carry them better than 7th place in the much improved and underrated big east. also, don't forget about jobu.. its rumored pat white of wvu learned how to play the qb position by watching jobu's h.s. game tapes. fo'real tho.. i think rutgers could potentially finish the season with 1 or 2 losses. the defense returns a very strong secondary, and the front 7 should be better than they were last year. but i kinda like going into the season as an underdog. there is no pressure for the team.

so why are people still talking about power conferences in sports. how can people still call the western conference the better conference in the nba when an eastern conference team handed their ass on a silver platter. there must be depth in the eastern conference too when u think about how the C's almost lost to the hawks in round one. c's battled it out with the hawks, and walked by the lakers. with that said, i will not claim one conference to be better than the other based on the fact any team can win on any given day.
people still talk about the afc being the power conference in the nfl. um, oh yea, the ny giants beat the undefeated pats in the superbowl.
how about everyone stops claiming one conference to be better than the other. it just doesnt make any sense.
only in mlb is one league better than the other. the AL is obviously the power league in the bigs. there is no way the NL is better.. especially when the NL doesnt even play with a DH. the DH rule is perhaps the best idea mlb ever came up with. NL is like what the NBDL is to the nba.. its just a step above college athletics. im surprised the baseball purists even allowed the DH. to be even more game enhancing, mlb needs instant replay like a itchy crackhead needs a fix.. but dont even get me started about that. bottomline.. pitchers pitch, they dont get paid to hit. u know what happens to pitchers who try to hit and run the base paths..

i dont understand some things about this world. actually there are many things. i will share with you two things that boggle my mind today.
1. why do they make cars go 200mph if ur only legally allowed to go like 65mph. seriously, whats with that. it sounds to me to be a set up by the gov't to F you into paying fines and burning fuel. i'm fairly certain every state in america has a speed limit so, seriously, why does the gov't allow car makers to manufacture cars to go faster than the limit.
2. why are people legally allowed to buy guns. and don't tell me its for the hobby of hunting, or for home protection. only rednecks go hunting and if u want home security, get adt. if there were no guns allowed to be purchased at ur local walmart, im pretttttty sure the # of murders from shootings would go down. makes sense no? u cant transport tobacco past state lines, but u can buy guns without a problem. perfect.
anyways, the gov't allows home ownership of fire arms so thats why we get NEW STORIES LIKE THIS.

the nba free agency period started. jamison signs a nice deal.. agent zero will be signing a even nicer deal. bdiddy looks headed for the clips, and elton brand re-signing there too.. instantly giving the clips some respectability, especially with al thorton playing nicely too. too bad it looks as if maggette is headed for the spurs tho. when maggette arrived at Duke, coach K said that maggette would've been the greatest duke player in history had he stayed all 4 years. duke doesnt produce the best nba players, but they've had a share of good college players.. like christian laettner, danny ferry, jason williams, and alaa abdlenaby just to name a few. but in this age, who really stays all 4 years in college. recently, the nba made the 1 year of college rule. some people like it, and some hate it.
i personally thing there should be an age limit to enter the nba draft.. and it should be 21 years of age, or 2 years of college basketball. sure major league baseball and tennis and golf have no age limits to turn pro.. but those sports are not comparable to nba in public status and wealth. the nba and the players will benefit from a couple extra years of maturity before entering a game full of grown ass men. u should at least be the drinking age to play ball professionally. hey, if u dont wanna go to college, or dont have the grades to go to college.. go to europe and refine ur game there before coming back to the states for the nba. whats the point of failing here and not being able to get a 2nd chance. if ur financial situation does not allow for college, then go overseas.. earn some money, get better, and if u are good, u will get noticed by the nba.

LEON SMITH.. have we already forgotten about him?
we hear about kg, kobe, and tmac.. but we often dont hear about the 100's of draft hopefuls that fail to make a roster after 1 year of college hoops or 0 years of college hoops. the nba game would be a lot better off with an age limit.

how pimp would it be if ur at a bar, and u make eye contact with an attractive person of the opposite sex... the person walks up to u, and to break the ice.. they ask for a piece of gum. u then reach into ur pocket and pull out a package of big league chew.

in a lopsided h.s. baseball game, the players on the losing team felt the game was being called unfairly. they were unhappy about the balls and strikes calls. so in retaliation to the umpire, the the pitcher/catcher/ss planned to bean him. this is ONE OF THE WORST ACTS IN SPORTS i've ever seen. these kids should be dealt with in a serious manner. completely safe for work link. the kid catching had his walk-on invitation taken away after the college coach saw this. the catcher said he must've gotten signals mixed up with the pitcher bc he was expecting a curve ball. oh yea? i never seen a catcher duck his head down to catch a pitch. odd. the ump said he had a headache after the game, and got an MRI. he also hired a lawyer.

nba draft is thursday. derrick rose should go #1. he seems to have the talent, intelligence, and feisty enough to succeed in the L. after rose, it gets interesting. dwayne wade has said he doesnt need michael beasley on team. not only does beasley have character issues, he's allegedly "looking forward" to the south beach lifestyle. homeboy is a freshman in college, with 2 cars. i say pass. beasley probably has the most talent out of anyone in this years draft, but that doesnt always equate to great players. does he have the heart? does he have the work ethic? i see a lot of derrick coleman in the kid. im sure beasley will put up #'s.. but he comes off as the guy just playing for the paycheck, nothing more. i could be completely wrong, and hopefully for the nba's sake, he will be a dominating player that keeps his head straight. wade is pushing for a pg so he can play the 2 guard next season tho.. so im guessing oj mayo or jerryd bayless is up for #2. oj mayo is arguably the next best talent at this point next to beasley, but again, character issues. mayo has the nba game already tho.
except for these 4 players, the rest seem doomed for the nbdl. eric gordon is a 'tweener. he has to play pg in the league. he reminds me of frank williams from illinois. i thought frank was gonna be a very good pg in the L bc he had size for a pg. i was dead wrong.
how the hell is russell westbrook climbing the draft ladder??? he's a bum. he had one good game in the tournament and his stock if flying out the roof? the knicks will grab him fo sho.
joe alexander has good work ethic, but sometimes good work ethic can take u so far. luke jackson seemed to be a good nba talent bc he was polished and had a nice overall game. he can't get burn for any team.
kevin love.. im not sure what to think. yea he'll get rebounds, but can he get buckets? nba big men are pretttttty athletic. not sure if love can handle the athleticism with his country strength. he sure does have a nice outlet pass! he'd be lucky to be as effective as andrew bogut. bogut is a nice player, so that is not insult.

on the flip side, guys like ryan anderson, cdr, dj augustin and anthony randolph may make impacts in 2-3yrs.

now that i've had some time to let the nba finals sink in, i'd like to share my thoughts.
first and foremost.. i am completely disgusted with phil jackson and the lakers team. 39-pt loss in a finals game is nauseating. this photo sums up the lake show accurately..

phil jackson's incredibly questionable substituting rotation cost them the series. how do u sit the league mvp so much? yea yea thats what they did in the regular season. um, its the nba finals. if u treat the nba finals like its the regular season, then u dont deserve to win and getting the 39-pt beating is what u asked for. ur best player plays ever single minute of the game if need be. is there no sense of urgency? phil sat kobe to start the 4th qu in game 6. sure they were down 30, but do they forget so easily how the c's have battled back from 20 down in two games?? anything is possible. basketball is a game of runs. the lakers couldve went on a 10-0 run, cut it down to 20, possibly cut it to 15 with half of the quarter left.. and 15 pts is a ball game in the nba. but instead, kobe sat and sat and sat. lakers quit.. in the nba finals. they have no pride and no fight. where is their competitive nature? the l.a. lakers organization is pathetic. absolutely unacceptable to play out the way they did. if i was the gm or owner of the lakers, i wouldve walked down to the bench and pimp slapped the ish out of phil jackson.
what a difference 5 months can make for the city of boston... it seemed just like yesterday asante samuel dropped a sure interception along the sideline that my grandma could've caught which wouldve also shut the door down on the eventual game winning drive highlighted by the tyree Emmaculate reception..

then onto the game winning touchdown..

im actually happy that kg, pp, and jesus shuttlesworth got their rings. they have been 3 players in the nba i like watching. only thing is, i hate the fact they won it for boston. kg showed up and laid it down on the lakers front court, if thats what the lakers call it. ray ray hit 7 3-pt'ers.. he got game. pp just killed whoever was guarding him. unsung heroes for the c's... rajon rondo played a great series. yea i said it.. a GREAT series. if u think otherwise, u obviously have no idea how the game is played. kendrick perkins used his big body and pretty much neutralized pau gasol... who was owning the big men in the western conference. so much for the western conference rolling through the east huh.
but who wouldve ever thought that eddie house will save the c's. he should be the finals mvp for providing the spark off the bench the c's desperately needed. eddie hizzzouse hit several clutch shots, along with james posey who doesnt show up a lot on the stat sheet.. but plays hard and smart, and hits timely shots in the corner. did posey just win rings 2 years in a row?? bottomline.. kg, pp, ray ray deserve their rings. i am happy for them. i still hate boston tho. mostly bc they got f'd up roads up there.. once u get off an exit, there's no getting back to where u were! tell me im wrong. and bawwstonians tawwwk funny.

the dog days of summer are quickly approaching, and there is nothing good to watch until mid august when ncaa football and nfl football start to kick in. we all know baseball is as much fun as signing on to take care of online bill payments. the sport is utterly unwatchable.. even golf is more thrilling to watch, by at least a hundo times better. and thats even without HAPPY GILMORE for the rest of the golf season out with more knee surgery. so i shall start praying the summer rolls by fast so we can all start enjoying sports again. thank god for 08 olympics too.
